Bodhidharma was a Buddhist monk who is known as the [father] of Martial Arts.

After some time the martial arts that were developed in China were studied by Okinawan students that would bring the art back to Okinawa.

In 1609, A Weapons ban in Okinawa by the Japanese Satsuma Clan [Samurai] brought forward a revolution of teaching weaponless - Empty handed - fighting techniques for defense from what was perceived as invaders.

Fast forward to 1891; Kanryo Higaonna, whom just finished training under his teacher; a man named Ryu Ryu Ko and would return to Okinawa after 24 years of Study in Mainland China to teach his own students

Enter Chogun Miyagi, a troubled, 'mischievous boy' as he was described, whom in 1902; at the age of 14, was accepted as a student by Kanryo Higaonna and was chosen to master all of the "Naha-te" art.

After a 2 year call-to-duty during WW1 and more travel and study in China, he would go on to develop and refine Naha-te into what would become the art of GoJu-Ryu Karate-Do, a name derived from a martial arts poem, and recognized Chogun as its creator.
